Playback of DVD on any PC whether its Linux or Windows can be a bit fraught. This is because of copyright and software patent issues and expected royalty payments to various bodies around the globe. Getting it all to work is pretty easy if you followed the quick start guide using Kaffeine but  as usual there are some gotchas that are covered in this section.

.

Note. You will only be able to change this a fixed number fo times typically 5. And then the drive will stay locked in that region

Software region code

Kaffiene should automatically set its region code to the same as the hardware region code on your dvd device. You can change this manually  with Settings->xine engine parameters->media->dvd.region Here

1. In hardware on your DVD device.
2. In software on your dvd player application.

Typically your machine will have had the hardware region coding preset at the factory, or if you have already run windows on your machine then the dvd player application will have set it also. However some DVD players come with a region code of 0. This may cause playback problems with certain discs. You can set the region code with the regionset utility from Here
