A Media Centre allows you to hold all of your digital media like a giant jukebox, all accessable via your remote control.
MythTV is probably the best Media Centre available at the moment for Digital TV. I have had it in production for several years now and have used it every day. Many thanks to Issac Richards the maintainer and all the active developers.
If you are new to Linux or openSUSE PLEASE see the quick start guide first, you will find the MythTV bit a lot easier afterwards.

MythTV on the Plasma with 5.1 speaker system
MythTV video format It is worth noting that MythTV uses its own video format for recording TV Broadcast streams. It makes use of a special version of NuppelVideo. DVB broadcast is transmitted in a format known as "ts". MythTV will, by default, convert this to "ps" format for recording as this has slightly better compression. Since MythTV 0.18 you can now record directly in "ts" format which provides better feature support for things such as subtitles.
